Milestones

1980

The Lung Cancer Tissue Bank opened.

1981

The Geriatric Assessment and Rehabilitation Unit opened.

1982

The inaugural The Prince Charles Hospital Board was formed.

Nuclear Cardiology commenced.

Sleep disorder investigations commenced.

1983

The first time a five intricate arterial ‘switch’ operation for a baby was performed in Australia.

1984

The first angioplasty procedure was performed.

1986

TPCH performed its 10,000th open heart surgery in May.

The Electrophysiology Laboratory opened.

1987

The new Cardiac Intensive Care Wing officially opened on the 27th October.

The Homograph Valve Program commenced.

1989

The Chair of Cardiovascular Research was established.
