Between 2016 and 2021, the Systematised, Interdisciplinary Malnutrition Program for impLementation and Evaluation (SIMPLE) was co-designed, implemented, evaluated, and scaled up across Queensland Health hospital settings.
In from 2020, The SIMPLE approach was then adapted for application in fragility fracture settings as SIMPLER. SIMPLER was initially presented and adapted in two key global textbooks with approval and acknowledgement to Queensland Health.:
Nutrition Support in Older Adults chapter of the Orthogeriatrics open access textbook
Interdisciplinary Nutritional Management and Care for Older Adults Textbook
The SIMPLER model was then further adapted by The Prince Charles Hospital, Metro North Health as the SIMPLER Nutrition Pathway for Fragility Fracture [(c) 2025 The Prince Charles Hospital, Metro North Hospital and Healthcare Service]. The revised pathway and toolkit were then further adapted by the Fragility Fracture Network and the University of Iceland for field testing in sites in Australia, Iceland, Norway, and the UK. This process was undertaken with acknowledgement to the Fragility Fracture Network (Global) SIMPLER Implementation Steering Committee, comprised of 18 interprofessional experts, and the University of Iceland.
This Libguide provides access to the latest version of The SIMPLER Nutrition Pathway For Fragility Fracture and other toolkit resources [(c) The Prince Charles Hospital, Metro North Hospital and Healthcare Service]. These resources are freely provided for educational purposes to support Australian hospitals and health services to implement and evaluate SIMPLER nutrition care to older people with hip fractures and other fragility fractures. The pathway and toolkit resources are designed to be modified to align with local contexts and requirements. Resources should not be implemented without local adaptation and compliance with site-specific clinical governance, policies, procedures, and other regulatory requirements.
Within Australia:
If you are from within Australia you can freely adapt and apply all resources to fit local requirements. Please consider contacting simple@health.qld.gov.au so we can monitor the impact of the program. We also welcome feedback and suggestions for improvements.
International:
If you are from other global settings, the International version of the SIMPLER Nutrition Pathway, along with other toolkit resources are available from the Fragility Fracture Network (Global) Home - Fragility Fracture Network. If you would like more information about the international version, please contact communications@fragilityfracturenetwork.org
