Training Overview

Entry requirements to Training Program

  • Successful completion of Basic Physician Training Program including both written and clinical exam components

 Overview of Training Program

  • Advanced training is a three (3) year program which includes:
    • Six months’ experience in general medicine
    • Six months’ experience in acute care (Group A rotations)
    • Six months’ experience in Group B rotations
    • Six months’ experience in Group B or C rotations
    • 12 months of non-core training
  • All these components are offered at TPCH
  • It is encouraged to join the Internal Medicine Society of Australia and New Zealand (IMSANZ) early. Trainee memberships available

 What rotations are recommended prior to applying for training

  • Background experience in medical terms

 How to improve your chances of selection

Demonstrate:

  • Good communication skills
  • Broad experience in medical terms
  • Appreciation of value of team work
  • Attend conferences such as the IMSANZ Annual Scientific Meeting

TPCH has current College accreditation for up to five (5) advanced trainees

Workforce Projections

General Medicine is growing as a specialty.  There were approx. 70 advanced training positions in Queensland and it is becoming more competitive.  In 2015, there were ~160 applications for these positions. Candidate selection involves submission of a written application followed by a rigorous interview process.
