This guide has been developed to provide junior medical officers with information on various provisional & specialty training pathways. The focus is the advantages of working and training at TPCH, to provide general guidance on recommended work experience and education prior to application to a college and tips to improve your chances of selection onto your chosen training pathway.
It is not intended to replace information available on individual college websites and it is strongly recommended that you contact the Director of Training of your specialty of interest for individual guidance as early as possible.

Medical Education Unit
The Prince Charles Hospital (TPCH) is tertiary referral hospital with approximately 630 beds and part of the Metro North Hospital and Health Service. The hospital provides health services to people living in the northern suburbs of Brisbane and highly specialised cardiothoracic services to the broader Queensland and northern New South Wales population.

Specialised state-wide services include heart and lung transplantation; adult cystic fibrosis; congenital heart disease and heart failure; percutanoeus valve therapies and complex cardiac care. It is an active centre for education and research. The new state-of-the-art library provides evidence-based information and research services. The Northside Medical School campus of the University of Queensland is located on this campus along with the Queensland University of Technology Mechanical and Biological Engineering Facility. There are leading clinical and translational research programs, particularly in the fields of cardiac thoracic medicine and surgery, critical care and orthopaedics. The site is a major training site for cardiothoracic sub specialties.
The Prince Charles Hospital has a range of amenities such as a gym, swimming pool and Doctors' common room.
